Whether it’s blowing bacon-flavored bubbles for the dogs, attending an adoption event or calling a reference for an application… we want you to join our team!
Any potential volunteer must be 18 years of age. If you wish to bring your child to assist you during your volunteer hours, they must be 10 years or older and submit an application as well. All parties volunteering must be trained. All volunteers under the age of 18 must stay with their guardian at all times while at the Sanctuary.
We can't make the Sanctuary a success without our greatest resource...YOU! We ask that you help 2 hours a week and make a one year commitment. Of course, you are welcome to volunteer more than 2 hours because we are sure once you start spending time with our seniors, you will want to be here with them more often! Volunteer Training sessions are once a month. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you regarding the next session once your application has been received.
To become a volunteer follow these simple steps:
We currently have volunteer opportunities in many different areas. Don't see something you're interested in? Let us know where your passions lie and if it helps our senior dogs, we're happy to explore it!
"When I went for the initial walk-through and information session at the senior dog sanctuary, I felt at home, like I belong there. The staff is warm and friendly and very helpful. The dogs are sweet and the joy I get from walking them, playing with them, or just sitting next to them stroking them is priceless! I get so much more from them than I give. But isn't that the way it always is?"
"What a fulfilling experience it has been for me as a volunteer at SDS! The time spent with the dogs has been so rewarding. You can sense their appreciation for all of us busy bees buzzing around making their lives better. They each have such unique personalities and it has been fun getting to know, and of course, love, each and every one of them! If you love dogs we would love you to join our group, we promise you too will soon fall in love!"
"At the Senior Dog Sanctuary, I work with people who truly value the resident dogs, whether they are just in transition to another home or if they are going to be there for their full retirement. Although the dogs are currently homeless through no fault of their own, and some have experienced not the best care in the past, they are without exception grateful and generous with their love. The seniors especially are also wise, patient, and above all tolerant of human shortcomings. I love it here!"
"I have been going to the Sanctuary on Sunday's for just a few weeks. It has become my "church" so to speak where I can spoil and get to know our senior furry residents. The facility is state of the art and fellow volunteers and staff have been so helpful and supportive as we all learn what tasks and procedures to implement. It's exciting to be on the ground floor of this new and caring rescue. I'm looking forward to participating in events and what’s to come!"
"People choose to volunteer for a many reasons. For me, volunteering offers a chance to spend my time and energy focusing on the love of dogs that I have had my entire life. Volunteering at the Senior Dog Sanctuary offers a unique perspective on some "old" dogs that have found themselves without a loving home. SDS staff and volunteers are a small group of people who are focused on the well being and care of senior dogs and work diligently to find them loving homes. If you have ever considered volunteering, the Senior Dog Sanctuary is a great place to start and the staff are helpful, friendly, dog-loving people!!"
